An elegant, effortless mixture of acoustics and electronics, Miftah Bravenda’s “Comforting Presence” soothes the very soul. Instrumentally lush, the way the sound grows and washes over the listener gives it a regal quality. Stylistically it incorporates elements of classical, pop, dubstep, dance, glitch and more into a singular whole. Layer upon layer intermingles to create a vast sprawling scope that has a vividness to it. The usage of color feels particularly profound for the textures and tones brim with life. Rhythms opt for infectious grooves making sure it all feels acutely balanced for maximum impact. Vocals, when used, further emphasize a stately presence for they are delivered with so much passion.

Miftah Bravenda’s work brings to mind some of James Blake’s earliest pieces. Akin to those works these pieces are painstakingly crafted to result in gorgeous blooms of color. Going further out than this, the R&B meets folk-influence draws from Toro Y Moi’s body of work. When all these elements come together what results are a highly sophisticated, urbane album. Every piece builds and plays off the last, making it best to take the album in as a coherent cohesive whole one which sprawls about in a bright brilliant glow.

Things open on a high note on the fantastic “Home”. Here the initial piano work gradually transforms itself into a symphonic droning scope that has elements of shoegaze that rise to the forefront. “Fearless” reveals the first beats of the album, with a jazzy inflection leading the way as the song itself touches upon some of Beach House’s dream-pop atmospherics. Incredible grooves are taut on the spirited “Indecisive”. Sheer emotion rests at the very heart of “Adelline’s Thoughts”. A light touch on “June” makes it the highlight of the album for the vocals mixed with the yearning melody lend it a nostalgic aura. Poppy and playful “Faithful” bounces along with jubilant glee. With “A Restless Night” the album comes to a close in a reflective fashion.

“Comforting Presence” shows off Miftah Bravenda’s deft ear for melody with themes that linger in the mind long after the album has ended.
